Summarizing the City

Since some of you asked, here is a summary of my looks from NYFW.

Dinner at Rosemary’s – West Village, NYC

On a prime corner of West 10th Street and Greenwich Avenue, Carlos Suarez has opened an Italian rustic restaurant with a state-of-the-art roof garden upstairs, growing all kinds of organic vegetables and herbs for their dishes. Rosemary’s chef, Wade Moises, studied under Mario Batali at Babbo and Lupa and has emulated his easy, family style meal presentations. Many of the tables at the Rosemary’s are communal or high top, wine and cheese style entertaining. I loved the atmosphere, the garden was a little jewel in the urban jungle and the wine choices were simple and delicious with easy-to-remember prices of $10 per glass and $40 per bottle. Thanks to my fabulous friend, Lauren for taking me!

The fabulous fashion guru, Lauren.

The braised octopus is shaved onto the plate, interestingly, in thin salumi-like slices.

Heaven on a rooftop.

The acqua pazza to-share platter (shrimp, mussels, and scallops, served over large chunks of toast) was amazing!

My look for the night.

Oh, The Pomp and Pleasure that is Anya Hindmarch

Anya Hindmarch showed her Spring/Summer 2013 collection at the Gramercy Park Hotel. The suite was a perfect backdrop to the “Pomp and Pleasure” theme of the collection, drawing inspiration from 18th Century English gentry and all their finery. A sophisticated color palette of cream, grey, tan and chocolate was accentuated by pops of bluebell, emerald, coral, mustard, celadon green and fuchsia. Elegant shapes were designed to be worn in a modern way cross body with striking contrast colour straps, hard clutches feature faceted sides inlaid with shagreen and huge leather tassels swung from bright pouches.

The collection was filled with luxury and cameo brooch detailing and the hardware was based on vintage bags Anya has admired.

Cheeky touches are alway present in her collections and she keeps that British humor alive with saucy printed canvas clutches and totes. Saucy and Sophisticated The perfect combo!

The Gramercy Park Hotel is a must-do when in NYC, even if just to stand in awe at the clever design and rich upholsteries and artwork. It’s a feast for the eyes!

NYFW Hat Attack and More Shoes!!

I headed out Monday for another shoe buying spree, and to balance it all out, I decided to see what one of my favorite milliners had to offer for Spring 2013. As for me, I sported neutral tones with a pop of color to keep me rooted to the ground!

For Spring 2013, n.d.c made by hand has hit their homage to the classics out of the park! I predict big things for these ankle boots, and the burgundy Oxfords are a perfect blend of old world style meets urban hip! Love!

And if n.d.c made by hand’s footwear makes you long for a bonnet to top it all off, then Eugenia Kim’s classic, sophisticated, and utterly wearable sun hats, make the perfect book-end. From street to chic, I predict Spring 2013 will prove to be one of Eugenia Kim’s best yet!

The Golden Goose Steps Out!

I”ve been so excited to see what Golden Goose has for spring and they didn’t disappoint. If you try to relegate these sneakers to the back of your “Sports Closet”, they’ll strut their way front and center of your couture closet! But, unlike your 4 inch heels, they’ll provide the comfort you expect from sneakers without compromising the effortless chic we all strive for when running around town. On top of that: 1. They’re individually hand-distressed, so you won’t have that first-day-of-school feel when you wear them. 2. They have a hidden wedge to give you a lift and, I think, make them more comfortable than flats. 3. They come in the hippest color combos.

And, they make off-the-charts-cool boots with the same distressed concept as the sneakers. The detailing makes these boots at home on the ranch, and top shelf in a rock star’s wardrobe.

NYC Lunch Date with the Girls

Look 4 – Lunch Date with the Girls. Fashion Week demands that we are on the run constantly, and that means that food moves as quickly as we do. So, when we get a chance to sit down, relax, and eat like a normal person, we take it! Pizza! And there’s no better way to do it, than with Victoria, Liz, and baby Dylan (aside, of course, from my BF), and no more comfortable duds than this… even with heels by Chloe!

Shoe Swoon

It’s hard to call it work when you’re looking at shoes to buy and Matt Bernson always makes it easy. He’ll be putting spring in your step with pops of cobalt and coral. Hidden wedges rule and we’re obsessed with the preppy animal print loafers. Here’s a peek….

A quick lunch at Tribeca Bread to take some notes and recharge. They make the best quinoa salad.

And, off, to the next appointment…

DIANI Hosts Fashion’s Night Out

Thursday night was Fashion’s Night Out around the country, and we had it all right here in Santa Barbara at DIANI.   Cynthia Vincent showcased her amazing bags, shoes, and apparel, and as you can see, people couldn’t wait to get in to get their hands on it!

With the inimitable DJ Flamezzz behind the turn tables, the ladies strutted their stuff in spiked heels, and colorful prints.  But the heels weren’t the only thing that were spiked.  The margaritas, served up by Carlito’s, were a perfect match to the festive atmosphere!

I want to thank Cynthia Vincent and Natasha Barrett, for your beautiful work and amazing support. Thanks also to Kim from Toast for the beautiful flowers, including the hard work of the lovely people from Carlito’s. And of course, a very big thank you to the Diani Girls. You not only looked smashing in your Cynthia Vincent dresses, but you made this happen! xoxo!

Kick Off! New York Fashion Week

As I pack my bags once again for two weeks in NYC, buying for Spring/Summer 2013, I’m often asked about the glamour and the glitz of fashion week.  I won’t deny that that is all a part of the fun, but for real trend-casting, I spend more time looking at the sidewalk than the catwalk.  It’s on the concrete, where the muses of the designers, the models, effortlessly display what they really like to wear (and they’re so much more accessible there too). So, stay tuned!  I’ll let you know what I find along the way! Happy Fashion’s Night Out Day!
