Locals Only

As a small business owner, I love supporting local businesses exclusively, whether it’s a little coffee shop, a place to buy pastries or my favorite book store, Chaucer’s. In a world that’s becoming more and more homogenized, it’s so important to hold on to all the things that make your town special and unique. I’m proud to say that I bought all my Christmas presents from local businesses in my hometown, Santa Barbara. So this weekend, if you have more gifts to buy, go local! Happy shopping!! Ho Ho Ho.

For the Love of Saipua

I’m always looking for floral inspiration and was recently told about Saipua, a soap making and floral boutique in Brooklyn, NY. I cannot wait to visit their space on my next trip to NYC, but in the meantime, here’s a little of what this incredibly talented posse do.

The Ring!

Here it is! The gorgeous ring that my crazy talented and creative fiancé gave me. It was a collaborative project between him and the designer of Sylva & Cie, Sylva Yepremian (who is my most favorite jewelry designer!).

The center stone is an Ethiopian opal that my fiancĂ© and I found together on a trip to Kenya to see family last Christmas. I fell in love with the peachy coloring of the stone and that it’s from Africa. As many of you know, I was born in Kenya and my heart and soul will always be there. Sylva set reclaimed vintage diamonds, some dating back as far as the 17th century around the stone. I love that they are old diamonds with tons of history. I’ll always wonder who wore these diamonds first….
