When we decided to go to Morocco for our honeymoon, we knew we wanted to go to Marrakech for starters, but didn’t know where to go from there. It seemed we had two options. One, head towards the coast, or, two, head towards the Sahara. Knowing that the Moroccan coast is unlike the West Coast where we live, we still felt like the Sahara would offer a much different experience than we were used to. So, we headed East out of Marrakech, and crossed the Atlas Mountains over the Tichka Pass, which was an adventure in and of itself. We then headed through Ouarzazate, the center of Morocco’s significant film industry, and over to Skoura. Skoura sits in the middle of a large oasis, filled with palms, and ancient Kasbahs. In the middle of all the magic, is Dar Ahlam. An oasis within an oasis. A place with only nine rooms and three villas, al fresco dining, and each personally prepared meal being served at a different location throughout the property. It was truly outrageous, and an incredible experience. If you get the chance, go there!
Food was custom prepared for each individual guest and made using ingredients from the organic herb and vegetable garden on the property.
One of our private dinner settings. Candlelit by the pool.
