New York Fashion Week Wrap Up

Travel Essentials

This is the time of year where I am bouncing around between NYC, Paris and LA scouring the showrooms and runways looking for the best of the best to bring into DIANI for fall 2014. It has it’s glamorous moments, but if any of you have been to NYC in February (brrr!), you’ll know that it can be close to impossible to 1. wear warm enough clothes and still feel chic and, 2. get anywhere on time when there’s snow on the ground. With up to seven appointments a day, it can sometimes feel like I’m on one of those Amazing Race-esque reality shows. However, over Valentine’s weekend, the hubby came out so we could see a play (No Man’s Land with Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart – AMAZING!) and also play in Central Park and visit friends in Upstate NY. It was the perfect time to fully embrace the snow and have fun! Here is a synopsis of essentials I travel with, a sneak peek at some designer highlights and the beautiful NYC in all it’s snowy glory.

The aftermath of a buying trip looks a lot like this….stay tuned for a Paris wrap up! For live time updates, follow me on Instagram @dianiliving xo

Prints gone Wild

I spent yesterday running around NYC in this whispy Prabal Gurung print dress. It was the perfect day to opt for something lightweight and flowy. It was also the perfect dress to try on Helmut Lang’s new leather jackets for spring. An insta fix for all those dresses that you wouldn’t necessarily wear every day – throw on a leather jacket or even a casual, tailored cotton jacket and, Helmut Lang does that look so well, slip your feet into a pair of Repetto ballet flats for day or your favorite heels for night and you’re set!

For the Love of Fashion

I can’t even begin to express how much I love my job. My degree was in clothing design and I’ve been in this industry for 22 years, so the fact that I’m as enamored as I’ve always been and continually learning, is amazing! As the buyer for my boutiques and e-commerce site, I’m constantly inspired by design, style, cut, fit and fabric. It’s such a rush when you find all those qualities in a designer’s collection or even just a single piece. You feel giddy with excitement. It’s the best kind of hunting and gathering and, each night, after a day filled with viewing collections, I map out each piece in my head and how it all works together. This is where the curating of a DIANI collection begins. It’s a constant dance of editing and adding to bring the best of the best to my customers and I feel honored to do it.

Lulu Frost Earrings

You’ll see me wearing Lulu Frost jewelry a lot. It’s a new addition to DIANI and these earrings are insane! Love the color, love the textures and love that they’re super lightweight.

Part of the fun of buying is getting to visit uber cool, beautifully lit lofts and showrooms. I always fantasize about what I would do to turn it into an apartment.

Black and Blue in NYC

I’ve been having so much fun jumping from showroom to showroom, seeing what’s new for spring. Although fall has definitely arrived in NYC and my color palette for the day was black and blue, my mind is firmly set on picking the best of the best for next spring from designer collections, denim, shoes and accessories. Oh, I love my life!

The Buying Begins

I just touched down in NYC for a week of buying for DIANI. It may be cold, but there’s so many hot-off-the-runways looks to pick through, that I’m excited to get outside and hit the city. Over the next two weeks, you’ll get to see behind-the-scenes of all the hottest designers F/W ’13 collections as I spend time in NYC, London and Paris. Stay tuned and Happy Monday!

Kick Off! New York Fashion Week

As I pack my bags once again for two weeks in NYC, buying for Spring/Summer 2013, I’m often asked about the glamour and the glitz of fashion week.  I won’t deny that that is all a part of the fun, but for real trend-casting, I spend more time looking at the sidewalk than the catwalk.  It’s on the concrete, where the muses of the designers, the models, effortlessly display what they really like to wear (and they’re so much more accessible there too). So, stay tuned!  I’ll let you know what I find along the way! Happy Fashion’s Night Out Day!
