Gold Rush

I’m seeing a lot of gold for spring and I was so excited about the new Dolce and Gabbana spring collection and how much gilded details there were. I’ve long been a fan of gold in all it’s mutations, especially accessories, perhaps because it was always a favorite of my mother’s. My go-to shoes this past week in NYC were my Chanel T strap heels, which I originally bought to wear on my wedding day. When I first laid eyes on those shoes, they felt like ancient Greek treasures with their encrusted gold block heel and fine gold meshing overlay. It’s only natural that when I go on buying trips, I’m drawn to all things in the golden hues. Enter my new jewelry crush, Venessa Arizaga. I had the pleasure of visiting her showroom and her Hawaii surf inspired pendants go straight to my heart. They’re bold, edgy and perfect for layering up and experimenting with the gold rush trend.

For the Love of Fashion

I can’t even begin to express how much I love my job. My degree was in clothing design and I’ve been in this industry for 22 years, so the fact that I’m as enamored as I’ve always been and continually learning, is amazing! As the buyer for my boutiques and e-commerce site, I’m constantly inspired by design, style, cut, fit and fabric. It’s such a rush when you find all those qualities in a designer’s collection or even just a single piece. You feel giddy with excitement. It’s the best kind of hunting and gathering and, each night, after a day filled with viewing collections, I map out each piece in my head and how it all works together. This is where the curating of a DIANI collection begins. It’s a constant dance of editing and adding to bring the best of the best to my customers and I feel honored to do it.

Lulu Frost Earrings

You’ll see me wearing Lulu Frost jewelry a lot. It’s a new addition to DIANI and these earrings are insane! Love the color, love the textures and love that they’re super lightweight.

Black and Blue in NYC

I’ve been having so much fun jumping from showroom to showroom, seeing what’s new for spring. Although fall has definitely arrived in NYC and my color palette for the day was black and blue, my mind is firmly set on picking the best of the best for next spring from designer collections, denim, shoes and accessories. Oh, I love my life!

NYFW Essentials

As I get organized for my buying trip to NYC, I’m realizing, eleven years in, that I have some key essentials figured out. There are certain things that I need on hand at all times. Every day is a non stop circus, rushing from one showroom to another, spotting and forecasting the latest trends that my customers are going to want to buy five months from now. That means chasing down cabs and navigating cobbled streets, all while looking effortlessly chic. I also need to be ready to photograph or illustrate inspirations in my note pad, that are unique to the places I’m in. While heels are a must for me to feel put together, they are ridiculously impractical for fourteen hour days. My trick is, when in transit between appointments by cab or on foot, give your feet a breather and throw on a pair of flats (that you have handily placed in your bag).

NYFW Essentials

In flight essentials: Anya Hindmarch Travel Case. Call 1 877 342 6474 to special order. Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes here. These are so great for freshening up your face during the flight. Smythson Bright Ideas notebook here. Muji pen here. Pantofola d’Oro flats (similar). JVC headphones here.

Arrival essentials: Oliver Peoples Hayley sunglasses. Call 1 877 342 6474 for more information. Leica D-Lux 5 camera (similar).

Anya Hindmarch Travel Case 2

Anya Hindmarch thinks of everything and always creates useful compartments in her bags and accessories. Her travel case is two-sided. Zip open one side for all of your “take-off” needs, and flip it over for your “touch-down” essentials. Genius!

Highlights from NYC – Day 1

You can always expect colorful and luxurious bags from British designer, Anya Hindmarch and her Fall ’13 collection was no exception. She’s been designing bags and clutches for the red carpet and chic-on-the-street for many years and her witty touches make her my go-to bag every season. Here are the highlights from the collection.

Jewel tones and ombre are huge for fall.

Tassels can’t be too big.

I’m dying over this bag!

Our best seller for several seasons, this cross body has all the signature Anya Hindmarch interior compartments. And this red is the perfect red.

Our youngest assistant, Dylan knows his bags.

Another personal favorite. This oversized clutch is perfect for the holiday season.

Anya loves her color smudging. This ombre grey is so chic!

This metallic clutch has an engraved sign on the clasp that says, “Break incase of an emergency”. Love!

We love you too, Anya.

Assistant, Victoria’s personal favorite in beautiful bordeaux.

Dylan swooning on the fainting chair after handbag overload.

The Buying Begins

I just touched down in NYC for a week of buying for DIANI. It may be cold, but there’s so many hot-off-the-runways looks to pick through, that I’m excited to get outside and hit the city. Over the next two weeks, you’ll get to see behind-the-scenes of all the hottest designers F/W ’13 collections as I spend time in NYC, London and Paris. Stay tuned and Happy Monday!

Helmut Lang comes Clean

Designer Helmut Lang has expanded with a collection of super clean and easy-to-wear pieces that still embody minimalist elegance. The collection called Helmut, has some of the best casual jackets on the market and I’m excited to bring them to DIANI for spring 2013.

Summarizing the City

Since some of you asked, here is a summary of my looks from NYFW.

NYFW Hat Attack and More Shoes!!

I headed out Monday for another shoe buying spree, and to balance it all out, I decided to see what one of my favorite milliners had to offer for Spring 2013. As for me, I sported neutral tones with a pop of color to keep me rooted to the ground!

For Spring 2013, n.d.c made by hand has hit their homage to the classics out of the park! I predict big things for these ankle boots, and the burgundy Oxfords are a perfect blend of old world style meets urban hip! Love!

And if n.d.c made by hand’s footwear makes you long for a bonnet to top it all off, then Eugenia Kim’s classic, sophisticated, and utterly wearable sun hats, make the perfect book-end. From street to chic, I predict Spring 2013 will prove to be one of Eugenia Kim’s best yet!

The Golden Goose Steps Out!

I”ve been so excited to see what Golden Goose has for spring and they didn’t disappoint. If you try to relegate these sneakers to the back of your “Sports Closet”, they’ll strut their way front and center of your couture closet! But, unlike your 4 inch heels, they’ll provide the comfort you expect from sneakers without compromising the effortless chic we all strive for when running around town. On top of that: 1. They’re individually hand-distressed, so you won’t have that first-day-of-school feel when you wear them. 2. They have a hidden wedge to give you a lift and, I think, make them more comfortable than flats. 3. They come in the hippest color combos.

And, they make off-the-charts-cool boots with the same distressed concept as the sneakers. The detailing makes these boots at home on the ranch, and top shelf in a rock star’s wardrobe.

NYC Lunch Date with the Girls

Look 4 – Lunch Date with the Girls. Fashion Week demands that we are on the run constantly, and that means that food moves as quickly as we do. So, when we get a chance to sit down, relax, and eat like a normal person, we take it! Pizza! And there’s no better way to do it, than with Victoria, Liz, and baby Dylan (aside, of course, from my BF), and no more comfortable duds than this… even with heels by Chloe!

Shoe Swoon

It’s hard to call it work when you’re looking at shoes to buy and Matt Bernson always makes it easy. He’ll be putting spring in your step with pops of cobalt and coral. Hidden wedges rule and we’re obsessed with the preppy animal print loafers. Here’s a peek….

A quick lunch at Tribeca Bread to take some notes and recharge. They make the best quinoa salad.

And, off, to the next appointment…

Kick Off! New York Fashion Week

As I pack my bags once again for two weeks in NYC, buying for Spring/Summer 2013, I’m often asked about the glamour and the glitz of fashion week.  I won’t deny that that is all a part of the fun, but for real trend-casting, I spend more time looking at the sidewalk than the catwalk.  It’s on the concrete, where the muses of the designers, the models, effortlessly display what they really like to wear (and they’re so much more accessible there too). So, stay tuned!  I’ll let you know what I find along the way! Happy Fashion’s Night Out Day!
